Collision cross-sections for low energy electrons in methane

Abstract

Electron diffusion coefficients have been measured in methane and collision cross-sections consistent with these measurements evaluated. These show that vibrational excitation is important at low energies and suggest direct rather than resonance excitation. The momentum transfer collision cross-section rises very steeply at low energies.
