Effect of pressure on the ultra-violet absorption spectra of iodide in non-aqueous solvents
Abstract
The energies of the first absorption band maxima for iodide in ethyl alcohol, methyl alcohol and acetonitrile move steadily to higher energies when the pressure is increased. The quantity, (dEmax/dp)T is dependent on solvent but relatively independent of temperature. These observations confirm a previously suggested generalization and lead to an estimate of the distance moved by the excited electron in charge transfer to solvent transition.
