Comparison of uni- and bi-dentate ligands as entering groups in some reactions of 2,2′-bipyridyldichloroplatinum(II)

Abstract

Second-order rate constants and activation parameters have been determined for the reactions in methanol of diethyl sulphide and several potentially bidentate ligands with the complex Pt(bipy)Cl2(bipy = 2,2′-bipyridyl). The results are consistent with the suggestion made earlier that interactions in the transition state between one end of a bidentate group and a chlorine atom of the substrate are important in reactions of this type.
