The Friedel–Crafts acylation of aromatic halogen derivatives. Part V. The reaction of aluminium chloride with iodobenzene and the iodotoluenes

Abstract

The aluminium chloride–nitrobenzene adduct acts on iodobenzene in ethylene dichloride solution to give small amounts of p-, o-, and m-di-iodobenzenes, and p-, o-, and m-chloroiodobenzenes (in decreasing order of yields). The corresponding reactions with the isomeric iodotoluenes afford varying proportions of 2,4-, 2,5-, and 3,4-diiodotoluenes.
