Kinetics of the bromate–iodide reaction: catalysis by Molybdate
Abstract
The reaction between bromate and iodide ions in aqueous solution at pH 2–3 is catalysed by MoVI and follows the kinetic law v=–d[BrO3–]/dt=k0[H+]2[l–][BrO3–]+k′[H+][l–][BrO3–][MoVI]. At 25° and ionic strength 1·00 mol l–1, k0= 50 l3 mol–3 s–1 and k′= 3·4 × 104 l3 mol–3 s–1. The catalysis is attributed to the formation of a complex between BrV and MoVI.
