Glacial acetic acid as a non-aqueous solvent for metal fluorides
Abstract
For the first time the use of glacial acetic acid as a non-aqueous solvent for metal fluorides is reported. The solubilites of 12 metal fluorides at 298 K are reported as well as the solubility of potassium fluoride in formic and propionic acid. Univalent metal fluorides are generally much more soluble than bivalent metal fluorides and in particular KF, RbF, CsF, and TlF are extremely soluble. The variation of solubility with temperature is reported for LiF, NaF, and KF. Several of the metal fluorides form solvates.
