Nuclear magnetic resonance studies on metal complexes. Part VII. The 31P n.m.r. spectra of some complexes of the type trans-RhCl-(CO)L2[L = tertiary phosphine or P(OMe3)]

Abstract

For complexes of the type trans-RhCl(CO)(tertiary-phosphine)2, there is a linear correlation between the 31P chemical shifts, δ(with respect to 85% H3PO4), for the free tertiary phosphine and the change in chemical shift on co-ordination, Δ, i.e.Δ=(0·335 ± 0·026)δ–(35·88 ± 0·69). For two mutually trans-phosphines with t-butyl groups, the 1H (t-butyl) n.m.r. pattern consists of a 1 : 2 : 1 triplet indicating a large value of 2J(P–P).
