Metal complexes of the virus inhibitor 2-α-hydroxybenzylbenzimidazole
Abstract
The preparation is described of the complexes M(HBB)3X2(HBB = 2-α-hydroxybenzylbenzimidazole; M = Co, X = Cl, Br or I; M = Ni, X = Cl, Br, I or ClO4), M(HBB)2X2(M = Co or Ni, X = NO3 or NCS), M(HBB)2(NCS)2(dimethylformamide)3(M = Co or Ni) and Co(HBB)3(ClO4) in which one molecule of the HBB has lost a proton The structures of the compounds are deduced from spectral and magnetic measurements. In most cases the HBB chelates through the tertiary nitrogen of the imidazole ring and the hydroxylic oxygen atom, but monodentate behaviour through nitrogen is also observed.
