Complexing of sugars with metal ions

Abstract

Sugars containing an ax-eq-ax sequence of three hydroxy-groups in a six-membered ring, or a cis-cis sequence in a five-membered ring, form complexes with metal ions, and particularly with alkaline-earth metal ions, in aqueous solution.
