Five-co-ordinate high-spin complexes of divalent nickel and copper with 2-methayl-8-[(6-methyl-2-pyridyl)methyleneamino]quinoline

Abstract

The tridentate ligand 2-methyl-8-[(6-methyl-2-pyridyl)methyleneamino]quinoline (mpq) forms high-spin five-co-ordinate complexes with nickel(II) and copper(II) of the type [M(mpq)X2], xH2O (X = Cl, Br, I, NO3, or ClO4), for which a trigonal bipyramidal structure is proposed. Analytical, spectral, and conductivity data support this assignment.
