Kinetics of reaction of peroxodisulphate with the 5-nitro-, 3-sulphonato- and 5-sulphonato-substituted derivatives of the tris-(1,10-phenanthroline)iron(II) cation in aqueous solution

Abstract

The kinetics of reaction of peroxodisulphate with substituted tris-(1,10-phenanthroline)iron(II) complexes in aqueous solution have been further investigated. For complexes containing strongly electron-withdrawing nitro- or sulphonato-substituents, reaction proceeds by paralled oxidation and aquation rate-determining steps, whereas for other complexes oxidation is the dominant process.
