197Au Mössbauer spectroscopy on some aurous and auric complexes

Abstract

Working at liquid helium temperatures we have obtained velocity spectra for 31 gold complexes. The variations in isomer shift and quadrupole splitting for the series LAuCl, LAuCl3[L = Ph3P, (C6F5) Ph2P, Ph3As, C5H5N, Me2S, and p-tolylisocyanide]; Ph3PAuX (X = l, Br, Cl, N3, OCOMe, CN, and Me); and M+AuX4-(X = F, Cl, Br, and l are discussed in terms of sp and dsp2 hybridization of the gold atom. All the quadrupole splitting of the aurous compounds are larger than those of any of the auric compounds.
