Pulse radiolysis of aqueous solutions. Some rates of reaction of OH and O and pH dependence of the Yield of O 3

Abstract

Rate constants of the reactions of OH and O with NO2, HCO2, I, H2O2 and HO2 have been measured using the carbonate competition method at pH 11 and 13. The results are consistent with the rapid establishment of the equilibrium, OH + OH⇌ O+ H2O. The pH dependence of the yield of O3 in oxygenated alkaline solution is consistent with the rapid establishment of an acid-base equilibrium, pK = 10.4, which is probably HO3+ OH⇌ O3+ H2O.
