Microwave spectrum and structure of nitrosyl fluoride

Abstract

The microwave spectra of the isotopic species 16O14NF, 18O14NF, and 16O15NF have been assigned and analyzed to give rotational constants. The constants allow the structure to be severally determined. The following structure is reported : rN–F= 1.512 ± 0.005 Å, rN–O= 1.136 ± 0.003 Å, and < ONF = 110°5′± 10′. Analysis of fine structure of 16O14NF transitions gives the 14N-nuclear quadrupole coupling constants as χaa= 1.69 ± 0.05, χbb=–4.83 ± 0.05, χcc= 3.14 ± 0.05 MHz. A new and convenient preparation of nitrosyl fluoride is also reported.
