A photochemical route to D-ribulose: a Type I ring contraction of a diulose

Abstract

D-Fructose is converted to D-ribulose using a photochemical Type I ring contraction as the key step in the sequence: isopropylidenation, oxidation, ring contraction, and hydrolysis.
