Pulse radiolysis studies of the reaction of H and OH radicals and hydrated electrons with pyridine
Abstract
The transients produced by the reactions of pyridine with H and OH radicals (–H˙C5H5N˙H+, –HO˙C5H5N˙H+, –HO˙C5H5N, –C5H5N˙OH) and hydrated electrons (–C5H5N˙H) have been studied using the technique of pulse radiolysis. The adsorption spectra of these species were obtained. Their formation and decay were studied under a variety of conditions, and rate constants for the following reactions obtained: [graphic omitted] By computer analysis the second-order decay constants of ˙HPyH+ and ˙HOPyH+ radicals were found to be 3 × 108 M–1 sec–1, and those of ˙HOPy, ˙PyN—OH and ˙PyN—H gave a value of 4 × 108 M–1 sec–1.
