Catalytic hydrogenation of some derivatives of 2-nitrophenylpyruvic acid

Abstract

Catalytic hydrogenation of the oxime, semicarbazone, and phenylhydrazone of 2-nitrophenylpyruvic acid yields indole-2-carboxylic acid and 1-hydroxylindole-2-carboxylic acid. Similar reduction of the oxime of ethyl 2-nitrophenylpyruvate yields a mixture of ethyl indole-2-carboxylate and 3-amino-1-hydroxy-1H-quinolin-2-one.
