The chemistry of polyazaheterocyclic compounds. Part II. The [1,2,3]-triazolo[5,1-c][1,2,4]benzotriazine ring system

Abstract

The products formed when phenylacetonitrile is condensed with 2-nitrophenyl azide or 4-methyl-2-nitrophenyl azide in the presence of sodium methoxide are shown to have the [1,2,3]triazolo[5,1-c][1,2,4]benzotriazine 5-oxide structures. Breakdown of the fused triazole ring in these compounds and their derivatives occurs under acidic conditions affording 1,2,4-benzotriazines.
