Ring-disc electrodes. Part 2.—Theoretical and experimental collection effciencies

Abstract

A fundamental parameter for a ring disc electrode is N, the collection efficiency. An exact solution for N is derived by rigorously solving the convective diffusion equation with the proper boundary conditions. Experimental results obtained on six different electrodes are in excellent agreement with the predicted values of N. The new theory is compared with an earlier approximate treatment which, depending on the electrode geometry, may lead to errors of up to 25 %.
