Conductimetric studies in ketonic solvents. Part IV. Various electrolyte parameters in wetted ketones

Abstract

Ionic parameters of salts in wetted acetone and wetted ethyl methyl ketone are not greatly altered when they are derived by newer calculation routines, except for salts comprising two large ions. A modified routine is proposed for these and other cases. Anomalous variations in potassium iodide parameters with solvent water content suggested by an earlier review of the literature are disproved by new measurements incorporating improved values of η and D. Iodide ion hydrodynamic parameters rise slowly on wetting but those for sodium and potassium ions are levelled in these media. Subcrystallographic association parameters which increase with wetting are found for tetra-n-butylammonium iodide; those for sodium and potassium iodide suggest considerable solvation, decreasing with solvent water content.
