The reaction of NN-dimethylformamide with phosphorus trichloride

Abstract

The reaction of NN-dimethylformamide with phosphorus trichloride has been studied, and the reaction product isolated. A structure has been proposed on the grounds of elemental analysis, electrical conductivity in chloroform solution, infrared spectra, and proton magnetic resonance. The p.m.r. of related compounds formed by reaction of dimethylformamide with acetyl, thionyl, and phosphoryl chloride, and dimethyl sulphate has been recorded.
