Influence of Ce2O3 and CeO2 promoters on Pd/MgO catalysts in the dry-reforming of methane

Abstract

In this study, the conversion of methane and CO2 to synthesis gas using dry reforming over Pd/MgO catalysts using different concentrations of Ce3+ and Ce4+ was investigated. Moreover, the factors that contribute to the deposition of carbon during the co-precipitation method were examined. The catalysts used in this study were prepared using K2CO3 as the precipitant. The characterization of the catalysts was performed using state-of-the-art techniques such as XRD, XPS, FT-IR, TPR-H2, BET, TEM, FE-SEM, and TGA. It was found that with the addition of Ce promoter, the Pd/Mg0.85Ce015O catalyst exhibited a high level of activity (CH4: 54%, and CO2: 74%) with excellent stability. The results of this analysis also revealed the outstanding anti-coking activity of the reduced catalyst with low Pd metal. In addition, we studied the catalytic performance and stability of the produced catalysts.
