Development and mechanism of a fluorescent probe for a Mn(ii) ionic complex capable of recognizing chloroform vapor molecules†
Abstract
Chloroform vapor is a volatile environmental pollutant that threatens human health and needs to be monitored urgently. We found that the [PPh3(Me)]2[MnBr4] complex with monoclinic structure easily formed ion-dipole interactions with chloroform molecules, resulting in structural transformation and the disappearance of fluorescence. More interestingly, this transition was reversible upon the removal of chloroform molecules.
