Preparation of asphalt-based microporous organic polymers catalyzed by heteropoly acids

Abstract

A green and sustainable preparation strategy is critical for the practical applications of microporous organic polymers (MOPs). Here, a new heteropoly acid catalyst/crosslinker system is adopted to prepare a new family of asphalt-based MOPs with a high surface area. In comparison with the conventional Friedel–Crafts hyper-cross-link polymerization, corrosive gases are completely avoided and the employed heteropoly acid catalyst can be recovered with yield up to 95% and recycled at least 9 times, retaining high catalytic performance. Particularly, the low cost, environmentally hazardous asphalt is converted into safe crosslinked polymers with good gas absorption capability. This “killing two birds with one stone” strategy is meaningful for the future industrial practice.
