Hierarchically controllable photoreaction of the coordination polymer based on quaternized 1,2-bis(4’-pyridyl)ethylene

Abstract

A multiple photoactive compound has been developed based on quaternized 1,2-bis(4’-pyridyl)ethylene, which exhibits hierarchical photoreaction by controlling light intensity. The weak ultraviolet can effectively promote the cycloaddition re-action with fluorescence enhancement, while the stronger ultraviolet can stimulate complex response of cycloaddition and electron-transfer which shows turn-off luminescence and coloration. The photofacilicated bleaching of the colored products has been observed for the first time in pyridinium family.
