Water-mediated and promoted eco-friendly one-pot synthesis of azaarene substituted isoxazoles

Abstract

An efficient and green approach of sp3 C–H bond functionalization of 2-methyl azaarenes to 3-methyl-4-nitro-5-styrylisoxazoles has been described in water. Nitrostyrylisoxazoles were proved to be good C=C electrophilic acceptors for the construction of various azaarene-containing Michael addition products. This method provides an efficient and environmentally benign one-pot synthesis of biologically important azaarene-substituted isoxazole derivatives in good yields. The important aspects of the present methodology are: use of non-toxic solvent, catalyst free, easy purification and large substrate scope.
