De novo design of a hydrolytic DNA cleavage agent, mono nitratobis(phen)cobalt(ii) aqua nitrate complex

Abstract

A new potent intercalating entity, mono nitratobis(1,10-phenanthroline)cobalt(II) aqua nitrate, was synthesized and crystallized in the monoclinic P21/n space group, containing hydrogen bond acceptor (O atoms) groups, which mediates the hydrolytic cleavage of plasmid pBR322 DNA. The kinetic aspects of DNA cleavage analyzed by the T4 DNA ligase assay are detailed.
