Magnetoreception System Constructed by Dysprosium Metallofullerene and Nitroxide Radical

Abstract

Endohedral lanthanide metallofullerene molecules have shown various paramagnetic properties. In this study, we present a magneto reception probe sensing the magnetic property of an endohedral metallofullerene through spin-paramagnet interaction between nitroxide radical and Dy3N@C80. The cycloaddition reaction on the outer cage of Dy3N@C80 was employed to obtain two regioisomers linking with nitroxide radical, which exhibits site-dependent signal intensity in ESR spectra. This binary of Dy3N@C80 and nitroxide radical has potential to be designed as a molecule compass with site-related magnetorception.
