A core–shell structure of Pt@SnOx/SiO2 was developed for the selective hydrogenation of acrolein. This structure significantly promoted the synergetic effect between Pt and SnOx for the selective hydrogenation of the C![[double bond, length as m-dash]](https://www.rsc.org/images/entities/char_e001.gif)
O bond in the presence of the CC bond, and showed high activity and selectivity to allyl alcohol.
