One-step synthesis of C–Bi2WO6 crystallites with improved photo-catalytic activities under visible light irradiation

Abstract

C–Bi2WO6 crystallites with improved photo-catalytic activities under visible light irradiation were prepared by a facile and efficient one-step microwave hydrothermal synthetic route. The phase compositions, morphologies and optical properties of the as-prepared samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometery. The results show that the as-prepared C–Bi2WO6 crystallites by a one-step synthetic route exhibit improved photo-catalytic activity for the degradation of RhB. This may be attributed to their good crystallinity and morphology, enhanced absorption in the visible-light region and effective transportation of the photo-generated electrons in C–Bi2WO6, which lead to a higher photo-catalytic activity.
