Vertically oriented graphene sheets grown on metallic wires for greener corona discharges: lower power consumption and minimized ozone emission

Abstract

Vertically oriented graphene-coated metallic wire is used as a corona discharge electrode. The discharge starts with a ‘graphene discharge stage’ and then transits to a ‘wire discharge stage’. Compared with conventional practice employing macro- or micro-sized electrodes, discharges from graphene sheets feature lower power consumption and significantly reduced ozone emission.
