Self-assembly of dialkyltin(IV) moieties and a thiosemicarbone to a trinuclear macrocycle and the unprecedented formation of two pseudo-polymorphs with different cavities

Abstract

The reaction of dimethyltin(IV)oxide with pyruvic acid thiosemicarbazone (H2pt) and subsequent recrystallization from THF leads to the formation two pseudo-polymorphs based on triangular [(CH3)2Sn(pt)]3 units; one of them [(CH3)2Sn(pt)]3.3THF (1) with tubular cavities while the other [(CH3)2Sn(pt)]3.1.5THF (2) is a H-bonded 3D network with truncated tetrahedral cavities.
