The new, activated, raft clusters [Os6(CO)20(MeCN)] and [Os6(CO)19(MeCN)2] have been prepared by the coupling of two Os3 units in a reaction involving PdCl2 as catalyst; they react readily with ligands L (L = PR3, CO) to generate a range of planar Os6 clusters, and with Me3NO–MeCN to form [Os6(CO)18(MeCN)3].
