Simplification of the mathematical evaluation of titration results by regarding complexes of the type AnB as n complexes of the type AB

Abstract

When titration results are evaluated mathematically, the calculations can be simplified and generalised by regarding complexes of the type AnB as n complexes of the type AB. For example, a diprotic acid can be replaced by two monoprotic acids, each of the same molarity as the diprotic acid but with other equilibrium constants. The conditions to be fulfilled if such simplifications are to give correct results are discussed in detail.
