Unified theory of temporal and spatial instabilities
Abstract
Chemical reaction-diffusion systems are discussed with the view of clarifying the relation between spatial and temporal concentration variations. The predicted absence of oscillating or propagating structures in closed two component systems, which are not oscillatory when stirred, points to the necessity of studying systems with more than two components.
