The biosynthesis of phenols. Part XXIV. The conversion of the anthraquinone questin into the benzophenone, sulochrin, in cultures of Aspergillus terreus
Abstract
It has been established that questin (2), with different levels of [14C]-labelling at two centres, is transformed by cultures of Aspergillus terreus to sulochrin (1) with the same ratio of specific [14C]-labelling at these centres. The significance of this result is discussed in relation to hypotheses concerning the biosynthesis of sulochrin.
