Determination of partitioning values of parathion-methyl and related compounds

Abstract

Hansch and Fujita have developed a structure-activity relationship based on partition coefficients in which they use a water-octanol system for determining π-values. Beroza and his co-workers have determined partitioning values (p-values) for many pesticides using a simple method and equation for conversion from p-value into partition coefficient. In this paper the relationship between p-value and π-value is established and the p-values of some new organophosphorus compounds are reported. The p-value determined by gas chromatography is compared with π-values derived from radiotracer methods; the advantages of determining p-values by Beroza's method over the radiotracer method are emphasised.
