A note on the formation of 4,4′-dihydroxy-3,3′,5,5′-tetraiodobenzo-phenone from 4-hydroxy-3,5-di-iodophenylpyruvic acid and 4-hydroxy-3,5-di-iodobenzoic acid

Abstract

The formation of 4,4′-dihydroxy-3,3′,5,5′-tetraiodobenzophenone by oxidative coupling of 4-hydroxy-3,5-di-iodophenylpyruvic acid with 4-hydroxy-3,5-di-iodobenzoic acid has been investigated using radio-active tracers. It is shown that the carbonyl group of the benzophenone is derived from the methylene carbon atom of 4-hydroxy-3,5-di-iodophenylpyruvic acid.
