Activation of CS2 by a “masked” terminal nickel sulfide

Abstract

The “masked” terminal nickel sulfide complexes [K(L)][(LtBu)NiII(S)] (LtBu = {(2,6-iPr2C6H3)NC(tBu)}2CH, L = 18-crown-6, 2,2,2-cryptand) activate CS2 to give the trithiocarbonate products [(LtBu)NiII(S,S2-CS3)] or [(S,S2-CS3)NiII{S,S2-CS2(LtBu)}], further confirming the nucleophilicity of the sulfide (S2−) ligand in these complexes.
