Micropatterned crystalline organic semiconductors via direct pattern transfer printing with PDMS stamp

Abstract

Herein, we have demonstrated a simple method to fabricate micropatterned 6,13-bis(triisopropylsilylethynyl) pentacene (TIPS-PEN) semiconductors through direct pattern transfer printing using a TIPS-PEN/PDMS stamp. The micropatterned TIPS-PEN semiconductor films on PDMS stamp are directly transferred onto polymeric/inorganic gate insulator surfaces at the desired location by the stamping process. These transferred TIPS-PEN films show uniform crystalline structures. Also, a variety of pattern sizes ranging from 10 to 40 μm are transferred, and the rectangular-shaped active pattern arrays are simply prepared without any etching processes. The OTFTs with the micropatterned TIPS-PEN semiconductors present good device performance with the highest field-effect mobility of ∼0.1 cm2 V−1 s−1 on the inorganic (SiO2) gate insulator. The applicability of direct pattern transfer by the crystalline organic semiconductor/PDMS stamp can be useful in manufacturing the micropatterns of solution-processed organic semiconductors for integrated TFT devices.
