A photocatalytically inactive microporous titanate nanofiber as an excellent and versatile additive to enhance the TiO2 photocatalytic activity

Abstract

The photocatalytic activity of TiO2 under simulated solar light, evaluated by the oxidative decomposition of organic compounds in water, was substantially enhanced when a new and photocatalytically inactive TiO2-based nanostructured material (a microporous titanate nanofiber) was just mixed with the starting suspension, as a result of the unique electron capture ability of the titanate to retard charge recombination.
