The synthesis and characterization of 1′-bromo-1,2-methano[60]fullerene

Abstract

In this paper we report the synthesis and characterization of 1′-bromo-1,2-methano[60]fullerene. This methanofullerene was synthesized using the reaction of C60 with bromocarbene. The interest in this derivative is related to the possibility of its further functionalization via Suzuki coupling as well as it being a possible intermediate for the generation of a C61 unit.
