An efficient synthesis of julibrosides related to neosaponin

Abstract

A practical method is developed for the synthesis of neosaponin cholest-5(6)-en-3β-yl β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→3)-[α-L-arabinofuranosyl-(1→4)]-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→2)-β-D-glucopyranoside. This julibroside mimic shows cytotoxic activity towards P388 (mouse leukaemia) with GI50 = 22.5 μg mL−1.
