New metabolic products of Aspergillus flavus. Part III. Biosynthesis of asperentin
Abstract
Incorporation of [2-14C]malonate and [1-13C]acetate by an entomogenous strain of Aspergillus flavus into the dihydroisocoumarin asperentin gives a labelling pattern consistent with its formation from a polyketide precursor assembled from one acetate- and seven malonate-derived two-carbon units. A technique for minimising the Overhauser enhancement in 13C n.m.r. spectroscopy is described.
