Design of abrasion resistant super-antiwetting nylon surfaces†
Abstract
Superamphiphobic textiles with strong abrasion resistance are highly desired for many applications, such as, breathable protective wear, corrosion resistance, super antiwetting and chemical shielding. High superamphiphobicity prepared through creating sophisticated morphologies normally would sacrifice the mechanical durability. A wet-chemistry method to produce abrasion resistant superamphiphobic surfaces based on nonwoven nylon fabrics is provided. The coated fabrics have excellent repellency to water and low surface tension liquids with static contact angles larger than 150° due to multi-scale surface roughness and low surface tension. The coating has negligible effect on the air permeability due to its small thickness; more importantly, the coating exhibits strong abrasion resistance.
