π-Chromophore-functionalized SWNTs by covalent bonding: substantial change in the optical spectra proving strong electronic interaction

Abstract

Electronic interaction between SWNTs and covalently linked π-chromophores is shown to critically depend on the bond length. A shorter link results in considerable changes in the absorption and luminescence spectra of the chromophore. The results suggest that the design of the bonding structure enables tuning of the electronic interaction between SWNTs and chromophores.
