Abstract

Six new mixed anion salts of tetrathiafulvalene (TTF, C6H4S4) containing SeCN were prepared electrochemically. Their chemical compositions were found to be (TTF)(SeCN)x(Y)y, where Y was a small inorganic anion with 0.5 < x + y < 1.0, similar to other mixed anion salts reported so far. The temperature dependence of the dc conductivity of these salts has revealed that the anions are less disordered in the crystal lattice than in SCN analogues. They behave as typical one-dimensional conductors with various degrees of anion order. It was shown that the anion disorder in position and orientation has decisive effects on the conductivity as well as on the conduction mechanism of the TTF chains.
