A study of halogen substitution in 4,5-dicarba-nido-hexaborane(8) and its C-methyl derivatives

Abstract

The preparations and properties of the chloro-, bromo-, and iodo-derivatives of the dicarba-nido-hexaboranes, C2(Me)B4H7 and C2(Me)2B4H6 are described, together with the iodo-compound, C2B4H7I. In all products substitution occurred at the 3-B atom as deduced from the 11B n.m.r. spectra. The occurrence of isomers in the iodo-compound, C2(Me)B4H6I has been observed. The mass spectra of the derivatives are reported, and compared with those for the parent compounds.
