Influence of decationation and dealumination on sorption by mordenite and clinoptilolite

Abstract

The sorption has been examined of Kr, CO2, and H2O in Na-mordenite and in each of a series of decationated and progressively dealuminated mordenites derived from it. The sorption of H2O in a similar series of clinoptilolites has been investigated, which, with the results for Kr and CO2 previously obtained, has allowed a comparison of the two groups of sorbents for a non-polar molecule (Kr), a molecule with a large linear quadrupole moment (CO)2, and one with a large dipole moment (H2O). The various effects of decationation and dealumination upon isotherms, heats, energetic heterogeneity, and differential entropies of sorption have been traced and compared for Kr and CO2, and in part for H2O. Studies have also been made of the competitive sorption of CO2 and H2O in representative sorbents of the same series of clinoptilolites and mordenites.
