The constitution and oxidizing properties of materials in the copper(II) oxide–manganese(III) oxide system
Abstract
The formation of the compound CuMn2O4 in the Mn2O3–CuO system is accompanied by a change in the oxidation state of the manganese and changes of activity in the oxidation of cinnamyl alcohol in neutral solution and in the oxidation of carbon monoxide in air.
The results are interpreted as supporting the view that CuMn2O4 contains the resonance system, Cu2++ Mn3+↔ Cu++ Mn4+.
